My testimony
When I was 15, I tried a friend's skateboard. Quite comfortable in front of the house, I left with confidence. I picked up speed on the first descent, without thinking about how to slow down and stop. I found myself on the ground, in the gravel, with a few holes in my legs. At the time, I didn't yet know about aroma, and I had used a disinfectant and healing cream from the pharmacy. It didn't turn out to be very effective, I still have a nice scar on my instep. Since then, I have only had minor injuries, while tinkering or gardening, and superficial burns, with an iron or the oven. I have always treated them with lavender hydrosol, very quickly and without scarring.
My tip
For a burn, the first thing to do is to put it under cold water for a few minutes, to prevent the burn from spreading. Subsequently, for a light burn, I apply lavender hydrosol, either as a spray or as a compress. I repeat the application every quarter of an hour, until I no longer feel pain. I continue the following days (generally one or two days is enough) by applying the hydrosol 3 or 4 times a day, until the burn completely disappears.
To clean a wound, I place a compress soaked in lavender hydrosol on the wound. I then apply hydrosol with a washable cotton pad several times a day. If necessary, I cover the wound with a ventilated dressing, so that it breathes.
You can also prepare a mixture to apply to the wound or burn with the hydrosols of lavender, bay leaf, immortelle (helichrysum) and cistus in equal proportions.
What does herbal medicine say?
In Europe, since the Middle Ages, lavender has been present in the gardens of monasteries and herbalists for its antiseptic and healing properties. Today, in herbal medicine, lavender is recognized for its analgesic, anti-inflammatory, spasmolytic and sedative properties.
The composition of lavender hydrosol, relatively close to that of lavender essential oil although they have a very different smell, makes it very interesting for soothing and treating skin conditions. Its main constituents are anti-inflammatory, anti-infectious, analgesic. It is therefore ideal for gently relieving pain, disinfecting and promoting healing.
Did you know ?
For a larger wound, it may be preferable to use lavender essential oil instead of hydrosol, so that healing is faster. You can then prepare a mixture with 10 ml of gel in a small bottle. aloe vera and 20 drops of lavender essential oil, to apply 3 or 4 times a day to the wound
I use hydrosols SAFELY
The tip presented does not imply any particular contraindication. Lavender hydrosol and essential oil are very well tolerated, even on a wound.
LAVANDULA ANGUSTIFOLIA Lavender
Native to the Mediterranean rim, this sub-shrub 30 to 60 cm high thrives on hillsides and mountains between 800 and 1,800 m. Wild or cultivated, so-called “real”, “fine” or “officinal” lavender is
an essential element of our flora, but also an essential basis of perfumery, cosmetics and aromatherapy. Its purifying role was already known to the Romans who added lavender to their baths and burned it in sick rooms to cleanse them. Its multiple uses (balancing
of the nervous system, sedative, anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, analgesic, healing, relaxing) and its safety justify its presence in the family pharmacy.
