Fig bud

The plant

Fig bud
Latin: Ficus carica

Botanical Family : Moraceae

Plant part: Bud

Origin: France

The fig tree is a tree that sings of the south, it is a classic of Mediterranean landscapes.

It is a tree of water and sun, it loves light and heat. Cultivated or spontaneous, it is found in uncultivated places, ruins, hedges. It supports the old walls which radiate their heat and protect it from the cold.

The fig tree is a fairly small, often twisted tree that can reach up to eight meters in suitable conditions. Its roots are long, they seek underground water. It is the momentum of the water that gives it this recognizable shape, the flexibility and fluidity of its branches which spread horizontally and its large leaves with undefined shapes. He often forgets to make a trunk, his branches end up playing the role.

Its fruit, which is not one in the botanical sense of the term, is strangely not announced by a flower as we usually imagine it. There is so much to say!

Let us limit ourselves here to the taste and nutritional qualities of this “false” fruit.  Rich in minerals (potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus) and fiber, it also contains mucilage which acts as a dressing for inflamed digestive mucous membranes. The circle has come full circle, we find in the fruit this attention paid to the digestive system. Be careful, however, of the sugar content of the fig.
